Crystal Dynamics' Lara Croft reboot continues as players join the famed adventurer's quest to discover the secret of immortality in Rise of the Tomb Raider. With her exploits in 2013's Tomb Raider covered up by the Trinity organization, Croft sets off to expose the truth behind ancient myths, beginning with a search for the fabled Siberian city of Kitezh. The third-person action is set in epic environments full of ferocious wild animals, unstable footing, and variable weather, and gameplay consists of exploration, puzzle solving, and a mix of brute combat and stealth attacks. Rise of the Tomb Raider features a crafting system that lets players gather materials from plants and animals to make important items, and Croft can now interact with the environment in new ways, including climbing trees, hiding behind bushes, and swimming underwater to confuse or avoid enemies. Gamers can wield a variety of weapons and tools, including pistols, a climbing ax, a bow-and-arrow, explosives, and the new hunting knife, and tomb exploration remains a key part of the action, with Croft solving a variety of environmental puzzles in order to acquire treasures and uncover clues about the ancient city. The 20 Year Celebration includes the full game, all previously released downloadable content, co-op support for the Endurance mode, a new difficulty mode with no checkpoints, the new Blood Ties story mode chapter that lets Lara explore the Croft Manor, and the Lara's Nightmare mode that finds her protecting her childhood home from hordes of zombies. Blood Ties also supports PlayStation VR allowing users to explore Croft Manor in first-person. Those who pre-order Rise of the Tomb Raider receive a limited edition case designed to look like Lara's journal that doubles as an art book.
